Is Quan Yi Feng a Good Role Model?

A Good Role Model is someone you can look up to, who inspires you and encourage you to make good choices in life.A Role Model could be your mum, dad, sister or even your favourite TV artiste. However what Quan Yi Feng have done recently have really disappointed most of the Singaporeans and made them ponder whether her behaviour is the appropriate behaviour for all the others to follow. After this incident, I personally think that she is not really a good role-model for all to follow.

Quan Yi Feng was being reported of slamming the taxi door of a 52 years old taxi-driver,sworing Hokkien words at the Taxi Driver and taking away his taxi keys after he refused to help her with her luggage. She also shove the driver aside and hit him when she was about to leave in another taxi to Changi Airport for her flight. However, Quan Yi Feng declined all allegations made against her and said that she did not thrash his taxi nor take his car keys. She also say that she kicked the taxi door as the door was blocked and she needed to get her luggage.

I personally think as a celebrity in Singapore, Quan Yi Feng should be careful of her actions as she is being looked upon by many Singaporeans. No matter what happened that might trigger her anger, she really should not have kicked the taxi door as it is considered very rude and uncivilized. If she really hit the taxi driver or take his car keys, she should admit it and apologise to the public and only then will she gain back the faith people have in her.

World Cup

The 2010 FIFA World Cup was the 19th FIFA World Cup that took place in South Africa from 11th June to 11 July 2010.It brings together 32 of the best soccer nations worldwide to compete with one another in Africa to see who is stronger.

Spain and Holland for the first time ever managed to squeeze into the finals. In the final, the European champions and second-ranked team defeated third-time finalists the Netherlands 1-0 after extra time with Andres Iniesta scroring a goal which make Spain the champions. The 2010 World Cup finals marked for the first time an european nation had won the tournament outside of its home continent,as well as the first time two different European teams has become World Champion in succession. In this 2010 FIFA World Cup,all the powerful countries such as Brazil who are expected to win the World Cup,did not win at all. Also, most of the football players could be seen not performing to the best of their ability.

In this World Cup,there were a lot of people who bet on it and lost lots of money as a result.A lot of Family were broken up as people rake up huge debts. As all the World Cup Matches are screened at midnight, football fans stayed up late almost every night to watch the matches resulting in them having no energy to go to work or school. They are then unable to concentrate well in work or at school, thus affecting their performances.Students would also be seen sleeping in class and not paying attention to classes resulting in their academic results to drop.

Being the host city of the 2010 FIFA World Cup is going to benefit Africa in many ways. The Africa football players are able to interact with the players from other countries and know more about the various culture among them and appreciate it.A international friendship could also be cultivated among it.Africa is also able to let the other countries in the World know more about Africa and let them know that Africa is also capable of hosting such a big event.

Dr Goh Keng Swee

Dr Goh was the Second Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore between 1973 and 1984 and a Member of Parliament for the Kreta Ayer Constitutency for a quarter of a century.Upon Singapore independence in 1965,he became the nation's first Minister for Interior and defence. He subsequently served as the first Minister for Finance(1967-1970) and Minister for Education(1979-1985).Following his retirement from politics,Dr Goh was still active in his public life rendering his services to many companies in Singapore.

The biggest impact that Dr Goh have done for us students is the education system. He set up the Curriculum Development Institute and introduced key policies such as religious education(which is later discontinued) and in 1980,the channeling of students into different programmes of study according to their learning abilities known as "streaming".I think this is especially important as different people have different pace in learning. Some people may be faster then the others in learning while some people may be slower in learning then the others.Through streaming the students according to their ability in learning, the students would be able to grasp a firm understanding of the subjects better.

The contirbutions that Dr Goh have done for Singapore is more than we can ever imagine.Singaporeans nowadays takes the present standard of living for granted because Dr Goh had laid the economy of modern Singapore.Dr Goh is one of the respected founding father of Singapore and without him,Singapore would not be able to develop so rapidly and become what it is today-a World-recognised country with lots of potential.

NEWater(Pros and Cons)

The natural resources on Earth are limited and there is a need for coutries to maximise the use of these resources to ensure that there are enough to last the other generations.Countries should try and reduce, reuse and recycle these natural resources. One example of natural resources is actually Water and there are limited supply of water in the World. Some countries would have abundant supply of water but some countries would not have.Singapore do not have such natural resources and we buy our water from Malaysia. The water we buy from Malaysia are actually raw water and after undergoing microfiltration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet technologies, they become NEWater and can be consumed.

With the population growing everday, there is a ned to find alternative to satisfy the human's needs and that is NEWater.Although reclaiming the water is good, there are also some advantages and disadvantages of NEWater. The first advantage of NEWater is that it help to reduce Singapore's dependence on other countries for imported water. This means that Singapore does not solely depend on Malaysia for water and even if Malaysia were to terminate their Water Contract with Singapore one day,Singapore would not be affected much. The Second advantage is that NEWater helps to maximise the use of water on Earth.Through recycling the water,it helps to maximise the use of resources left on the Earth to ensure that there are sufficent supply to last the future generations. The third advantage of NEWater is that it helps to save space and it is energy efficent which means that money would not be wasted in the process.

The first disadvantage of NEWater is that it is very expensive. It requires a lot of processes to obtain the NEWater which means that a lot of money would have to be spend. The product itself is costly which means that if it was to be sold in supermarkets,it would not be cheap and not many people would be able to afford it.The second disadvantage is that not many Singaporeans are used to the NEWater yet. Most of the Singaporeans are still used to the imported water from Malaysia and it would take a period of time before they get used to the NEWater.

Ionescu still has 'immunity'

Silviu Ionescu hit and run accident have attracted the attention of many Singaporeans as they are concerned about the verdict and also whether justice would be served to those that are involved in the accident. The tragic accident happened last year on the 15th of December and it hit 3 pedestrians along Bukit Panjang Road. One of them died later.Following to this,Singapore government issued a arrest warrant against Ionescu and Interpool issued a red notice against him.Despite the fact that many witnesses of the accident pin-point Ionescu as the culprit behind the wheels,he denied all accusations made about him and stressed that he was being framed.Ionescu then returned back to Romania and did not come back since.

A well-respected diplomat as well as someone with a high ranking in the ministry actually doing such a heartless thing have left many fellow Singaporeans with a question to ponder upon.Does Ionescu have immunity? To me personally,I do not think that Ionescu still has immunity. He had severed his contract with the Romanian government which means that he was not the staff of the government.Ionescu was not involved in any offical duties at that point of time when the accident happened. He had taken the flag down from his car when he drove and he himself also declared that it was not official business. The governement had also said that based on the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic rights,Ionescu was not protected by diplomatic immunity against his deeds.Based on the law,a diplomat loses his immunity once he leave the host country. Thus Ionescu would have to answer for his own actions. The Romania government should also stop shielding Ionescu but instead find out the truth of the whole accident and let justice be served.

Diplomats are usually people with integrity and certain social standing who are then chosen to represent their country.Ionescu abusing his diplomatic immunity by disappearing from the scene of the accident and claiming that he was not the driver have proved to us that there was a problem with his integrity. He has brought disgrace to his own country.

What are some of the safeguards RWS can do to prevent theft?

In my opinion,I think that in order to prevent cases of theft from happening again in RWS,a series of safeguards can be implemented.Opportunities to steal must be remove and these include limiting the amount of petty cash on hand.Account regularly for all the inventory and also the amount kept in the cashier must be regularly accounted to prevent discrepancy in the amount of money collected.Employers of the RWS should also evaluate the business regularly to identify weak or unguarded points and determine how to remove it in order to avoid tempting thieves.

More CCTV should be installed in the Casino especially at the corners or places with gambling tables. These are the most common places where crimes are more highly to take place. There should also be a control room whereby all the scenes of the casino that are captured by the CCTV can be viewed from.An high-ranking employee of the casino should be seated inside the control room at all time so that if anyone is to commit any theft,he would be able to see it and take immediate action before thievery is being committed.Posters showing the consequences(for example penalty or jail-term) of being caught cheating or commiting any form of thievery should be put up in the casino also.

RWS can also tighten their security through hiring more security personnels to patrol around the casino at all times. With more sercurity personnels patrolling around the casino, gamblers that are attempting to commit any sort of theft are going to think twice before doing it as the chances of them being caught is very high. These would then greatly reduce the number of thievery in the casino. Also,Employees of the casino should be vigilant at all times(especially during the exchange of chips). They should be aware of their surrounding and report any thievery to their employers ASAP.

Favoritism to a employee in RWS must be strongly avoided as it can destroy the team camaraderie.Employees should be treated with equal respect and this includes not over-looking the highest-paid employees when investigating suspicious activity for they could also be thieves.Employers of RWS should also perform background checks on the people applying for the job in RWS and weed out all those that are likely to cause problems.Employers should also establish a sense of ownership among employees by taking their feedback into consideration so that they feel empowered and would always put the company's interest above anything.A sense of loyalty towards RWS is thus created.Bonus programmes should also be introduced to award employees with good behaviour and punish thievery.

I believe that if all these safeguards were to be introduced, employees would become loyal to RWS and cases of theft would also be drastically reduced.
